August Tour with Corey Harris (USA)

poster-01

Square One & Laing Entertainment in association with Rhythms presents Corey Harris with Special Guest, Kristen Lee Morris.

Fresh from a U.S co-headline tour with Aussie favourite Eric Bibb, Corey Harris returns to our shoes for the first time in over 16 years for a series of solo shows along the East Coast. He has earned substantial critical acclaim as one of the few contemporary bluesmen able to channel the raw, direct emotion of acoustic Delta blues without coming off as an authenticity-obsessed historian.

Along with Keb’ Mo’ and Alvin “Youngblood” Hart, he raised the flag of acoustic guitar blues in the mid-1990s. Corey Harris was prominently featured in the Martin Scorsese film ‘The Blues: A Musical Journey’ and has performed, recorded, and toured with many of the top names in music such as Billy Bragg & Wilco (on the acclaimed ‘Mermaid Avenue’ albums), BB King, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, R.L. Burnside, Ali Farka Toure, Dave Matthews Band, Tracy Chapman and Olu Dara.

The album was produced by Kasey Chambers and recorded live up at Foggy Mountain Studios with Bill Chambers (guitar and lap steel), Jeff McCormack (bass), Steve Fearnley (drums) and Harry Hookey (harp). Kasey also sang a bit.

The album will be released on November 11th with very special national tour dates to be announced.

Cactus Flowers at The Glass Onion Society

I am very honoured to be hosting a new fortnightly alt-country / roots session at my favourite cafe, The Glass Onion Society. The first two have been packed and by all accounts folks are loving the chill Sunday vibes, great food and coffee, and the fine artists we’ve been able to book (as well as extra special guests). Week one we were blessed with the talents and heart of Harry Hookey. Sweet Jesus he is amazing! Week two Mark Moldre and Adam Lang tore the Onion into tiny, little pieces. It’s been captivating and so much fun!

Entry is totally FREE! I have been kicking things off with a set at 12pm with mando master, Trent Crawford, and the beautiful Sarah Humphreys. It’s already getting very popular so it’s worth booking a table with The Onion if you want a nice spot.

The next Cactus Flowers is on 27th July featuring an extra special set by Sarah. She is my favourite. Ever. Kid’s are welcome. So are adults. Keep an eye on my Facebook or gigs page for updates.

Gigs, Writing and New Stuff

How are you? Its starting to feel a bit chilly here with Autumn finally finding its feet here in Australia. Its a great time of year with the sun cutting through the crispness in the air. Most days we wander down to the seaside and feel lucky to be where we are. Come up to Terrigal sometime and say hi!

Since last time I dropped an email I’ve done the mini tour and some small shows with Mike McCarthy. Mike’s songs are amazing and I love just playing guitar and going along for the ride. I’ve probably said this a few times already but if you need some great music go and get The Lion’s Share. You will love it.

I’ve also done some writing with Cam Mackellar including a track we co-wrote which will be on his impending album. I’ve been listening to mixes of the album and it is incredible. I will also be playing some guitar with Cam on some shows so keep an eye out for those. If you are on the Central Coast put July 7 in your diary for the Lizottes show supporting Mark Moldre.

In regards to my own stuff I have been writing a lot of new stuff and will be releasing some new stuff this year. Last night I went to the legendary Bill Chambers’ songwriter’s night and did some tunes and it was an amazing time. A great bunch of music lovers appreciating some great songwriters and players. If you are local you must come along. Its on every second Thursday at Quattro Cafe and offers a free night of music by some of the best writers and musicians in this country. I’m going to make it my regular spot to go and trial out new songs so come along and check it out. I will buy you a beer if you buy me one.

That’s about it for now. If you want to get in touch or see what’s happening with gigs and stuff pop me a message on my Facebook page. I’d love to hear from you.
